This prevents the body from attacking the herpes virus. The antiviral stops the spread of the virus by releasing its active ingredient, aciclovir, into the body.
Zovirax cream is applied twice a day for 5 days. It is available as a cream, a gel, a liquid, or a solution. Cold sore medicine is applied to the cold sore area twice a day, usually twice a day (preferably morning and evening) for five days.
Zovirax cream should be used as directed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. You may take Zovirax cream with or without food. Drink plenty of water while taking Zovirax cream. It should not be used more often than once daily. Do not take more than 1 tube at a time, even if you start to feel better.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
Zovirax cream is usually used once or twice a day. Its effectiveness may vary based on the dose you take. Your doctor will decide how you will respond to the treatment and the specific condition of your outbreak. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
